The kickstart scheme provides funding for a six-month work placements from the start date of employment for 16-24-year-olds who are claiming Universal Credit, and are at risk of long term unemployment 

The placements will be for a minimum of 25 hours a week

Placements are paid at the relevant National Minimum Wage for the employee’s age, and national insurance and minimum pension contributions are also covered

Junction 4 Skatepark

Junction 4 Skatepark is a not for profit organisation and must comply with the responsibilities set out by companies house.

Junction 4 is a unique extreme sports facility offering a number of opportunities in extreme sports including Scooter riding, BMX, skateboard and in-line skates.

The venue also facilitates birthday parties, school holiday clubs, Private hire, meeting space and conferencing.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and suitably experienced individual, passionate about what goes on in the extreme sports world, willing to share ideas and to assist us in keeping our Skatepark a vibrant and fun place to visit.

The successful candidate will join a hardworking but friendly team, whose commitment to the success of Junction 4 makes it a great place to work.

The role also involves ensuring the safety and well-being of all users and handling and reporting any accidents/incidents as required. This will be a role which is customer-facing as well as internally focused and will require excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a calm manner, and an understanding of the extreme sports culture and activities.

 Sport Activator

The focus for this role will be facilitating/coaching an activity/session with the goal of achieving wider social outcomes.

Facilitate community engagement supporting local communities in shaping and participating in activities. Co-ordinate the delivery of sport/physical activity as directed by Junction 4 that follows the strategy/policy set out by the managers and or directors.

Design and deliver activities that meet the needs of the target group. Consult the target group to inform how to organise activities for them; potentially design the activities with the target group and develop positive and effective relationships with every participant.

Schedule the activities and inform participants when and how to attend and what equipment to bring.

Prepare, set up and lead the activity; close the session and tidy up according to the activity and venues procedures. 

Run activities that focus first and foremost on creating fun, safe spaces for the participants to grow as people and secondly, improving their sport or physical skills.

Introduce participants to the rules of the games and common values that sports may bring (e.g. teamwork, resilience).

Work with the participants on their personal development and connect them with clubs, social groups or other relevant services in their communities according to their interests and needs.

Maintaining appropriate boundaries and confidentiality with participants, staff and volunteers.

Collect contact information, attendance data and consent forms (if needed) from participants (in accordance with GDPR rules) to ensure regular communication and establish who to contact in case of an emergency when delivering the activity.

Gather and compile data such as attendance numbers, feedback (e.g. satisfaction surveys) and other reportable outcomes from the activities.

Assist the team in running the park as per the policies and procedures and ensure that users follow Junction 4 Skatepark’s policies and safety procedures at all times.

To help promote the park and what it has to offer via various media outlets, actively assist in encouraging young people to use the Skatepark and take an active role in promoting it.

Look after Skatepark equipment and supplies in an organised and responsible manner. Sign-out equipment as required and maintain an up to date record of all equipment, and its condition taking action if needed.

Support the team with the development of the facility and work as part of the team to make the wider public aware of the opportunities that the facility can offer.

To assist the team to forge relationships with schools, groups and other outside organisations where applicable.

Represent the initiative at a local level and facilitate communication between the organisation, funders, local agencies and the local community. 

Maintain a proactive approach to the role and responsibilities, along with a commitment to enable and sustain Junction 4 Skatepark’s positive and inclusive  vision, values and ethos.

Attend and fully participate in staff meetings, appraisals, and team development sessions when requested.

Undertake any training and development deemed necessary to gain and improve appropriate skills.

Undertake basic first aid training.

The post holder will be required to work evenings and weekends.

Person Specification: Sports Activator




At least 12 months’ experience of sports including skating/BMX/Scooter/In-line skating and being involved in this industry and network  


Experience in consulting and designing sport activities


Experience in the delivery of coaching/facilitating sport groups and activities


Experience gathering and compiling data





Skill and Abilities



Ability to engage young people and enable them into activities           X

 Knowledge of computer software systems, email and   internet programmes, ability to operate word processing, spreadsheet and graphics programmes

Qualifications Essential Desirable
Current First Aid at Work qualification  


G.C.S.E Grade C Maths and English  


Disclosure Barring Service check DBS (The post requires a DBS check– the post will be offered subject to satisfactory DBS clearance)


Coaching certificate in relevant area level 2  


Sports leader certificate level 2
